- Bandcamp has again continued their support of artists by waiving all revenue share fees on June 5th, ensuring 100% of sales go directly to the artist. We urge you today (and every other day), support local artists.
Today, we’d love to recommend some incredibly talented local black artists that have contributed their art to our community. The music industry has been forged, preserved, and advanced thanks to the contributions of so many revolutionary forms of art from the black community. These innovators have inspired the works of so many generations of artists, and artists to come. From Muddy Waters (the father of Chicago blues) that inspired the likes of The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, to the soul inspirations of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, to one of the greatest selling artists & vocal powerhouses of all-time Whitney Houston, to modern day hip-hop inspirations like The Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, and so many more.
Today’s artists are here to do the exact same, to create and advance emergent forms of art. We stand with the black community and make the pledge to continue to learn, contribute, and support the black music and arts community at large to best of our ability.
In addition to support black artists, here are list of resources with ways to contribute to those who need it most right now: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/
Thank you to additional contributions from our team, Elizabeth Kivowitz, Jordan Snowden (Pittsburgh City Paper), & more!
